چکیده

The effect of grating textures on the alignment of cell shape and intracellular actin cytoskeleton has been investigated in bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) cultured on a model cross-linked poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). Grating-textured PDMS substrates, having a variation in channel depths of 200 nm, 500 nm, 1 pm and 5 pm, were coated with fibronectin (Fn) to promote endothelial cell adhesion and cell orientation. As cells adhered to the Fn-coated surface, the underlying grating texture has shown to direct the alignment of cell shape, F-actin and focal contacts parallel to the channels. Cell alignment was observed to increase with increasing channel depths, reaching the maximum orientation where most cells aligned parallel to channels on 1-pm textured surface. Immunofluorescence studies showed that F-actin stress fibers and vinculin at focal contacts also aligned parallel to the channels. Cell proliferation was found to be independent of grating textures and the alignment of cell shape was maintained at confluence.

Vibration Analysis of Magneto-Electro-Elastic Timoshenko Micro Beam Using Surface Stress Effect and Modified Strain Gradient Theory under Moving Nano-Particle

In this article, the free vibration analysis of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) Timoshenko micro beam model based on surface stress effect and modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) under moving nano-particle is presented. The governing equations of motion using Hamilton’s principle are derived and these equations are solved using differential quadrature method (DQM). The effects of dimensionless...

Large-area Sub-micron Structured Surfaces Using Micro Injection Moulding Templates of Nanoporous Anodized Aluminum Oxide

This study demonstrates a mass production method using nanoporous Anodized Aluminum Oxide (AAO) templates as mould insert tools that are used to structure large area polymer surfaces by a micro injection moulding process. SEM and water contact angle measurements served to evaluate the effect of nanostructures on surface properties. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were cultured on nano-st...

The Relative Importance of Topography and RGD Ligand Density for Endothelial Cell Adhesion

The morphology and function of endothelial cells depends on the physical and chemical characteristics of the extracellular environment. Here, we designed silicon surfaces on which topographical features and surface densities of the integrin binding peptide arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) could be independently controlled. We used these surfaces to investigate the relative importance of the...

Cytoprotective Effect of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Pinus eldarica Bark against H2O2-Induced Oxidative Stress in Human Endothelial Cells

Background: Pinus eldarica is a widely growing pine in Iran consisting of biologically active constituents with antioxidant properties. This study investigates the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of P. eldarica bark against oxidative damage induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Methods: The total phenolic content of p. eldarica extract was dete...

The nature of the frictional force at the macro-, micro-, and nano-scales

Nowadays it is accepted that the friction force is a combined effect arising from various phenomena: adhesive forces, capillary forces, contact elasticity, topography, surface chemistry, and generation of a third body, etc. Any of them can dominate depending on the experimental force and length scales of the study. Typical forces in macro-tribology are in the Newtons, while are reduced to milli...
